A Day at Ackworth School

Ackworth School near Pontefract, West Yorkshire has recently celebrated the passage of its 240th academic year as a Quaker School and I am thrilled to tell you that the Cross Stitch Guild continues its support and interest in the antique sampler collection held at the school.

The Guild’s involvement with the school goes back a few years now because the School Governors asked us to help them study, look after and publicise the presence of the unique sampler collection owned by the school. These very early and very fine samplers are distinctive in the use of the medallion shapes and motifs which are seen in Quaker samplers in other Schools and institutions.

The Guild has held Study Days at the School before, and I am happy to be part of another one. I have just finished designing something special to stitch on the day, inspired by one of the distinctive medallion motifs.

The Study Day takes place on 30th August 2025, and I will be attending the event to teach the project. You can read more about the day here or get in touch with Andrea at the CSG on 0800 328 9750 to book. I believe there are just a few spaces left if you would like to come – it would be lovely to see you there!
