Cross & Crown with Leaf Border Bookmark
A Bristol Board bookmark worked on perforated paper which has been stitched in cross stitch in stranded cottons (floss). The decorative border is one of the more unusual ones I have seen as it is worked in long stitch, in a combination of beige and dark blue.
The bookmark is backed with silk ribbon but could be mounted and framed. It measures 2 x 6.25in (5 x 16cm) and will be supplied between stiff card and wrapped in tissue.

The story of this little treasure
If I am wearing my cross stitch designer hat, I look at this piece and am very impressed by how clever the stitcher was to work the border so well to look good at the corners – believe me, this is quite an art. Then I wonder if the stitcher was very annoyed when they sat back and realised the cross was so off-centre. I think it rather adds to the charm! Of course, unpicking stitches formed on paper would not have been an option.
I have collected items stitched on early perforated paper for many years and these include samplers, bookmarks and needlecases.
