Gilly Flower & Acorn Notebook
This book is really just for me – I am a blue girl and this is just perfect for me. Did you imagine I did not have a selection of Kate’s books? Bound in Cashel linen in ivory, this book includes a section of the historic Holbein stitch used to illustrate a band from my Heartsease Sampler inspired by Dr Goodhart’s Sampler Collection.
Dr Goodhart bought his first band sampler for under £10 because no-one knew what they were. If you mention the word ‘sampler’ to the uninitiated a picture of a house, two trees and alphabet with a child’s name comes to mind. Dr Goodhart knew better and understood the meaning of sampler or ‘exampler’ (more of this anon…).
This book is hand bound with a variety of papers, card and envelope pages and has a waxed thread closure. It measures 4.5 x 6in (11.5 x 15cm).

The story of this little treasure
I met Kate Bowles for the first time on my stand at the Knitting and Stitching Show in Harrogate some years ago. We got talking and she showed me an example of her hand-bound books. I haven’t been without one in my handbag since. One of my favourite books is one Kate made me some years ago to celebrate supplying Liberty of London for over 25 years. She had included my old hand-drawn designs of the Liberty building in Regent Street and used an old tape measure as part of the spine.
