This gorgeous little hussif is made as a band sampler with four internal pockets and finished in soft brown silk. Stitched on a piece of washed unbleached linen, the hussif is created with counted cross stitch, satin stitch, broken Rhodes stitch, colonial knots, French knots, rice stitch, hemstitch, and bullion bars.

This lovely treasure is supplied complete and ready to use, with additional treasures inside the pockets! You will find two faux ivory thread winders, a pair of lion’s tail scissors and one of Kate Bowles’s raspberry needle waxers. This treasure measures 16 x 5in (41 x 12.5cm).

The story of this little treasure

I designed and stitched this pocket sampler as my student’s project when Bill and I took a party of stitchers to Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, USA over 10 years ago! I have visited the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum on a previous occasion when researching for this trip and the curator of the textile section could not have been more helpful. It was there that I saw my first antique pocket sampler and it was the inspiration for this project.
