I write the needles praise (A century of Sampler Making 1630s-1730s)
This is the most comprehensive book about band samplers ever put together by Rebecca Scott and her team of researchers. It was published at the end of October 2022 to mark the beginning of an extraordinary exhibition of band samplers band samplers.
In her exhibition in the autumn of 2022, she has excelled herself! There are more than 50 band samplers from this early period in full colour with so much researched and curated information about each one.
Soft-back A4 with 144 pages in glorious colour, this is a must for anyone studying band samplers. When I popped over earlier today to look at her unique exhibition of band samplers, I immediately snaffled a box of this new title.

The story of this little treasure
I am naturally drawn to Witney Antiques, a remarkable gallery in Oxfordshire which has the largest collection of historic embroideries in Europe. I regard the owner, my friend Rebecca Scott, as the fount of all knowledge when talking about samplers and the history of this genre. Rebecca has collected samplers and other early embroideries for many years and is so knowledgeable. Although her soft back, full-colour books are originally designed to support exhibitions held at the gallery, they are amazing works. All her books are a joy and a must for the sampler lover.
