Large Victorian Scissors with Mother of Pearl Scissor String

1 in stock

A real luxury – to be used for posh stitching! These lovely faux pearls are made as scissors strings as I broke the necklace at a concert!

These lovely antique Victorian scissors are something very special, so the string needed to be extra special too.

I make all my scissor strings from recycled necklaces and bracelets. I have a penchant for big jewellery (a lady of my dimensions must consider scale), so I do tend to buy things in my colour palette and then they head for my bead box when I get tired of them. There is nothing quite as satisfying as making these treasures and sourcing pretty scissors to suit them. The scissors are beautifully made and very sharp and would grace any workbox.

This treasure will arrive wrapped in tissue and boxed. String, not counting scissors, measures 6.5in (16.5cm) Scissors measure 5.5in (14cm).

The story of this little treasure

This little treat is two treasures in one. I found the scissors (early 20th century – when they were made, rather than when I discovered them!) when I visited my favourite shop in Broadway, Worcestershire. They were part of a needlework box that had been broken up by a collector and are quite unusual with the addition of the mother-of-pearl on the handles. They are in lovely condition, and I wanted to make them even more special, so I hand-crafted the little beaded string.
