Nautique Scissor Pocket & Stand

Out of stock

As I am sure you already know, I have a penchant for finding vintage cotton reels and in all shapes and sizes. I discovered three very special large wooden spools in a shop in Broadway. Worcestershire. All three we full of fine silk thread and had the loveliest patina to the wood. It took time to decide what to do with them.

Using the shape and size of my silk thread bobbins, I folded some lovely linen eyelet band to create a pocket for scissors and the little fish charms. I have worked little ships and a compass motif and added a pair of gilt lion’s tail scissors which are attached to a shell button with a twisted cord.

The fish counters work as thread winders and are probably made from bone. The little rosebud ruler is created from vintage piano keys.

As the wooden reel is padded it will also behave like a pincushion. It really is the perfect little workstation.

It measures 3.5 x 2.25in (9x 6cm).

The story of this little treasure

I bought three lovely wooden reels of silk thread from my favourite shop in the Cotswolds (Betty and Violet) and have been looking at them for some months and wondering what to do with them! At the end of 2021, I bought a mixed lot of needlework items at auction and found that it included six dear little fish counters – and it came to me! And just like that the Nautique scissor pocket and stand came to be.
