Rare Quaker Beaded Pinwheel

Out of stock

This is one of the most exciting treasures I have found over the past few months. This is a hand-knitted pinwheel which was made by a former scholar of a Quaker School. It is perfectly possible that this treasure came from Ackworth School as it echoes the beautiful medallion motifs from the School’s sampler collection. The pinwheel is double sided and must have been knitted on tiny needles in fine thread and then beaded with miniscule glass beads using two popular Quaker patterns and dated 1838.

The story of this little treasure

I am sure you know now that I cannot resist buying stitchy bits and pieces for my collection and that as Creative Director of The Cross Stitch Guild, I have access to and permission to reproduce designs from the Ackworth School Sampler Collection. A pinwheel in such good condition is very rare indeed and I realised that it was something very special as soon as I looked at it through the glass of the display case!
