Square Embroidered Workbox Weight with Uzbek Scissors
A very special treasure and there really are only four available… I bought these pieces of embroidery when in India before the pandemic and have looked at them sitting in my workroom since then wondering how to show them to their best advantage. When I saw the distinctive steel scissors on my Uzbekistan trip this month, the answer came to me. I separated each panel very carefully and created this workbox weight adding the scissors with a twisted cord chosen to match the stitching.
The embroidery is worked in cotton and silk and is embellished with shisha mirrors. I have made the back out of strong linen so that you can use the back to add pins and needles. The steel scissors are inspired by the male stork as you can see by his head feathers and are fiendishly sharp. The bird shape is beautifully balanced in your hand and very pointy!
The scissors measure 4.5in (11.5cm) and the workbox weight measures 5in square (12.5cm). Both are supplied boxed together.

The story of this little treasure
I was so lucky to have a trip to Uzbekistan recently. Naturally I wanted to bring something special home with me! The blacksmiths of Bukhara had the very thing – stork scissors and not like those we have in the UK. Not only got to see them being forged, I also managed to fit several pairs into my luggage to bring home for you.
