Strawberry & Hardanger Needlebook

Out of stock

This charming needlebook was stitched for my Little Book of Hardanger and is supplied complete and ready to use. It is stitched on Cashel linen, lined in pale green silk Dupion, and has a twisted cord closure. The cross stitch motifs are stitched in stranded cottons (floss) and the Hardanger embroidery was worked in cream perle thread.

I have added three gold-plated needles as a special treat! This treasure will be supplied wrapped in tissue and boxed. It measures 3.5in (9cm) square when closed.

The story of this little treasure

I was introduced to Hardanger embroidery almost 30 years ago and continue to think it is the best-kept secret in the embroidery world. I come from a self-taught counted cross stitch background and find free embroidery a real challenge, but the elements of Hardanger embroidery just seem to fit my mindset and I simply love the effect achieved with very few stitches. Hardanger embroidery, is a form of whitework (hvitsom or kvitsaum) combined with cut, drawn and counted thread work. It is associated with the mountainous area of Norway around the Hardanger fjord, where there are distinctive patterns within the different communities.
