The Flowery Mead Scissor Stand & Needleroll

Yet another cotton reel has been repurposed and is now a dear little workstation for use in your stitching corner. The wooden bobbin is padded so that it will take pins. The pure linen band, from Vaupel & Heilenbeck, is stitched by hand with some wildflowers in counted cross stitch, then carefully lined in Liberty Lawn. I found some beautiful Italian-made lion’s tail scissors to match the stitching.

You can keep your best gold-plated needles in the band and then pop the scissors in the hole in the top. The scissors are held with a hand-crafted cord which matches the stitching.

The Scissor Stand and Needleroll is supplied boxed with a pair of lion’s tail gold-plated scissors, some pearl pins and three gold-plated needles. The cotton reel measures 2in ( high and 1.75 ( across the top.

This bobbin is another one-off but please check back for more in a little while. Each one will be individually stitched, inspired by a vintage reel and Liberty lawn. I promise more will be on their way as I did discover some lovely old cotton reels at the at wonderful when visiting the wonderful Betty & Violet shop in Broadway.

The story of this little treasure

I have always been very fond of old wooden cotton reels and bobbins, and love adding to my collection. You will even find a giant one in my kitchen – I couldn’t leave the shop without a bobbin that had been upcycled into a wooden spoon rack. (Thank you again, Baileys Home Store!)

Whilst in charge at The Cross Stitch Guild, I did create some pretty kits involving reproduction cotton reels. (These were initially made for me by my lady wood turner, Jo Freeman, who has had to retire because of her health.) If you would like to stitch any of my scissor and needle holders, you will find them here.
