The Thread Thief Hussif Kit & Accessories
Designing and making this treasure has been a labour of love over the past months and the idea has been cooking in my head for much longer than that. It is an ‘hussif’, or organiser that folds to hold all your stitchy stuff. It closes neatly with a button and twisted cord closure. Of course, I got carried away and designed a pair of matching accessories too – a ‘watbo’ for pins or as a scissor keep, plus a scissor chatelaine.
The plain ‘hussif’ is made for you from 28-count washed unbleached linen (from Zweigart and Sawitski), and is trimmed with Liberty lawn binding in ‘The Strawberry Thief’ pattern.
The Hussif is very cleverly constructed so that you can stitch all the charted designs, getting your hand – and small embroidery hoop – inside the pockets as necessary. Once the stitching is complete, the outside pockets are slipstitched closed, and you can use the internal pockets to store your special stitching treasures.Unrolled it measures 18.5 x 6.5in (46 x 16.5cm)
I was so thrilled with the finished effect, I wanted to give it a little treasure of its own. I commissioned some upcycled piano keys to be etched with an original drawing of the Thread Thief himself.
The kit is supplied boxed (as illustrated) and includes the hand-crafted hussif in linen and Liberty lawn, two gold-plated needles, gold-plated scissors, charts in colour and black & white, pre-sorted stranded cottons (floss), 12-ply hand painted silk, gold metallic thread, shell buttons, vintage seed beads, exclusive Thread Thief charm and fully illustrated instructions.

The story of this little treasure
This stitching project took quite a while to come together – the inspiration came from some weird and wonderful places. I will tell you the full story in my Jottings.
