Victorian Flower Vase Book
Another example of book binder Kate Bowl’s cleverness and artistic talents as she has used a very small piece of cross stitch to complete the spine on this real treasure. The piece of stitching was taken from a scrap of hand-painted Berlin embroidery chart and I had stitched the flowers and the vase in counted cross stitch using stranded cottons on a pale pink linen.
The book includes upcycled plain, squared and manuscript papers dotted with hand-crafted envelopes. The book has a linen twisted cord and Dorset button closure and measures 4.5 x 3in (11.5 x 7.5cm) overall. The book is supplied tissue wrapped and gift boxed.

The story of this little treasure
I met Kate Bowles for the first time on my stand at the Knitting and Stitching Show in Harrogate some years ago. We got talking and she showed me an example of her hand-bound books. I haven’t been without one in my handbag since.
This new range of embroidered books have been hand crafted by Kate and she has, as always, been so clever with her use of the embroidered pieces and the shape of the completed handmade books. All the counted cross stitch pieces are designs of mine from my archive (otherwise known as the loft) and most are worked on 28-count Zweigart linen using stranded cottons.
