Vintage Apricot Rose Needle Stand & Scissor Keeper

Out of stock

Hand crafted from a vintage tray cloth, this is an ideal companion in your work corner. The embroidery features multiple bullion knots with lazy daisy stitches worked in stranded cottons (floss) and perle thread. With both the scissor keep/pincushion and the needle stand filled with dry rice and some preserved lavender petals, you can load a few needles with the colour you need and have them poised for action.

Both items sit on the table with a satisfying thud and your scissors will stay where you put them. The long needle stand is double-sided, so it does not matter which way up it lies. The scissor keep is backed with apricot silk and I have attached a pair of lion’s tail scissors with a matching twisted cord. Supplied boxed.

The needle stand measures 2 x 8in (5 x 20cm) and the scissor keep/pincushion 3in square (7.5cm).

The story of this little treasure

One of my favourite pastimes is searching through bags and boxes of old linens and old embroideries, often in charity shops, at fairs and in brocante markets. I am taken back to my youth where the iron-on transfer was king, and lazy daisy stitch was queen! These early treasures are often thrown away or find their way to charity shops or jumble sales. I love to find another used for them and my friends have been the recipient of pincushions or needle books made from one of my finds.
