A day at Thyme & The Country Brocante

My husband Bill does not get the term ‘brocante’ and is often speechless when I arrive home with my treasures!

I should start by explaining that Thyme in this context is a glorious country estate near my home in Gloucestershire. It is a hotel and restaurant but so much more. I have lunched there a couple of times and by lucky chance had a private tour of the kitchen garden and cut flower area (they have an in-house florist!). You have to brace yourself for the bill as it is very costly, but it is a heavenly experience.

On this occasion, my esteemed editor, Jenny, treated me to day to a Country Brocante fair held in the grounds of the hotel. (I think this field is usually where the helicopter delivers guests for lunch…)

My husband Bill does not get the term ‘brocante’ and is often speechless when I arrive home with my treasures! You can see from the pictures that it is simply perfect for me – nothing essential but I seem to come home with rather a full car. I can partly blame Jenny this time as she bought a pleasingly rusty chair for her garden.

The lovely Lucy Hunter was present again and demonstrated just how easy it is to arrange flowers – if only I could get mine to look like hers.

I always find lovely fabric pieces, bits of antique stitching, French linens, vases and bits and pieces for the garden. Just heaven.

I must add a thank you to Jenny for use of her pictures. I was too busy shopping…
