The lesser spotted Berkshire Pixie!
Last week Bill and I we celebrated our wedding anniversary and enjoyed a lovely romantic date night with candles on the table and home-made Veal Cordon Bleu with spaghetti (a firm favourite over the years) and chatting about our first date and so on…
Both Bill and I had been married before, so when I told my father that I was going to marry Bill he suggested we wore black armbands as we had both made such a mess of it first time around!
That was all 43 years ago and I know some of Bill’s friends worried that it would not last.
When you consider that Bill left Lloyds Bank to join me in running the Cross Stitch Guild in 1990 and we have worked together ever since, I think we have done very well – just the occasional plate throwing but nothing serious!
I thought I knew most things about him but the day after our anniversary I asked him about the origins of ‘The Berkshire Pixie’. This magical creature has been mentioned many times over the years – these Pixies dance about in only socks, thus it is important that chaps born in Berkshire never leave taking their socks off last, just in case…
Bill simply fell about as this had been his own invention the year we met – I had been fooled for more than 40 years!
