I simply cannot tell you about my trip to Uzbekistan without talking about the textiles and embroideries – but I would really need to write a book on the subject! So this is just a taste of the fabric and other decoration that we saw on the trip.
We flew to Tashkent, travelled by fast train to Bukhara, then drove to Samarkand by coach before flying home. All these places were full of fabrics and embroideries that simply blew my mind.
As a cross stitch addict, you can only guess at how I felt seeing so much cross-stitched stuff at the markets and in the shops. It has taken me a while to choose from the hundreds of photos I took, but here is just a small selection to whet your appetite.
I promise to talk about the tiles and other hard decoration another time.News of my travels has spread already – I have been asked by Sewing Street TV to present 12 tile designs for next year. Talk about an embarrassment of inspiration riches. Before I even began to look at the tiles on the buildings, I noticed that all the prayer hats have square tops… I simply do not know where to start.
