Heart and Flowers Chatelaine & Scissor Keep

This two-part treasure is stitched in counted cross stitch on 28-count linen and then made up by hand. The chatelaine is a folded triangle and lined with silk Dupion. A pair of Italian gold-plated chatelaine scissors are attached with a thatching twisted cord.

The ‘Watbo’ scissor fob is stitched as three little squares and then folded to create this unique shape.

The chatelaine measures 2 x 2.5in (5 x6.5cm) and is supplied wrapped in Indian silk and gift boxed.

During a holiday to the Far East, my husband and I spent time in Cambodia, and I visited Siem Reap where the night markets were simply stuffed full of cross stitch! The counted technique is commonly used on traditional costume, and even pleated skirts were covered in stitching. I was transfixed but, in the end, I bought very little except a shaped woven keyring, which has inspired a shaped scissor fob. I have called this shape a ‘Watbo’ after the Watbo Temple near the night market.
