Luxury Hardanger Needleroll & Chatelaine Scissors with Beaded String

This very special treasure was originally stitched as a sampler for a Hardanger class held here at Pinks Barn. I have converted it to a luxury needle roll and scissor safe by working a folded hem and lining the band with hand-dyed wool felt.

Worked on Cashel 28-count linen in stranded cottons (floss), with the Hardanger section stitched in hand painted cotton threads. The stitches used include cross stitch, satin stitch, buttonhole bars, Kloster blocks, needleweaving and dove’s eye.

The Italian gold-plated scissors are attached with a matching twisted cord and include a Murano bead and gold-plated dog clip. The needleroll measures 9 x 3in (23 x 7.5cm) and will be supplied with four gold-plated needles. All will be wrapped in Indian silk and gift boxed by yours truly.

When we bought Pinks Barn, it was very scruffy, damp, had rats and the roof leaked. At no point in the plan to buy this house did I think it would help me to earn my living. That is in fact what happened. After much refurbishment and even a green oak building added, I was able to move the Cross Stitch Guild from rented premises to my purpose-built space and run regular classes in the conservatory. Looking back, I loved those days but as much as I miss the fun, laughter and of course the shopping, I can admit now that when my class members left I used to go to bed to recover!
