Ann Fuller Tape Measure Doll
It is simply no good, I cannot resist a novelty tape measure. This little free-standing doll measures 3.5in high (9cm) and hides a combined metric and imperial tape measure in her skirts. It retracts by pressing the little button underneath the doll.
The doll’s felt-lined apron lifts to reveal a home for your needles, while the curious wire loop at her waist is designed to hold a thimble.

The story of this little treasure
A little label on the base of the doll reveals that the maker was Anne Fuller. A little research soon revealed that Anne tuned a hobby making peg dolls into an international business back in the 1980s. My doll is appropriately named ‘Sewing Doll’ and one of hundreds of designs. I rather like the sound of Anne from a quote I found: “I created my dolls for the love of it and never expected to make any money. I was always more interested in the next one, not the last one”.
