Black Teflon Scissors with Vintage Silk & Cotton Tassel

These scissors stopped me in my tracks when I was at the Knitting & Stitching Show in Harrogate at the end of 2023. They are beautifully weighted and very sharp. Although they have short points, they handle really well and seem very accurate. (Those of you who do Hardanger embroidery will understand why that is so important!)

I have attached one of my precious silk and cotton tassels using a chunky twisted cord, thus making them even more special! The scissors measure 4.25in (10.5cm) and the tassels measure around 5in (12.5cm.) The twisted cords are hand-crafted and the sizes do vary. The scissors and tassels will be carefully wrapped in tissue and boxed by yours truly.

Last year Bill and I visited Uzbekistan and I loved this fascinating country and, in particular, a town called to Bukhara. As we wandered the shops in Samarkand and Tashkent, I could see that almost everything had a tassel on it. The hats, scarves and even pencils seemed to be adorned with tassels but I could not find them to buy.

On almost the last day we were visiting a beautiful summer palace during our five-hour journey to Tashkent airport, and I found just what I wanted – a lovely long fringe decorated with handmade silk cotton and silver tassels. Perfect! After much battering and smiling and pulling faces, I bought the whole fringe and have spent many happy hours adding my handmade cords to them.
