Vintage Bobbin and Peacock Scissor Stand & Needleroll
This scissor stand and needleroll has been carefully crafted in the most glorious rich colours mainly down the fabulous, embroidered ribbon I managed to buy in Kolkata when Bill and I were visiting India in January.
I had a supply of these vintage bobbins which I had saved for another project but could not resist using them for this little workstation! Each bobbin is padded with wool flannel so that you can use it as a pin pad as well as a needle roll.
The stylised peacock feathers motifs are created in a number of embroidery stitches in a repeating pattern, and I have lined the inside in dark wool navy felt, just perfect for storing your gold-plated needles. The ribbon winds around the vintage bobbin and is fastened with a matching twisted cord. I have attached a lovely pair of gold-plated Italian chatelaine scissors and added three pearl-headed pins.
The stand measures 3.75in (10cm) high and 2in (5cm) across and is supplied wrapped in tissue and gift boxed.

The story of this little treasure
I just love the history behind these simple pieces of wood and wonder about the past and the lives of people who used them. I have collected all sorts of wooden bobbins and cotton reels and love to decorate then when I can find the right width ribbon or band.
It was on our last day in Kolkata that we found our lovely Mr Artu Mullick in a tiny shop in a market and I was almost overwhelmed with the choice… I had to keep in mind that what would look fantastic in India (lots of gold and sparkle) would not necessarily look good in the UK, so had to choose fairly carefully. I do hope you like my selection.
