Alphabet Scissor Stand & Needleroll

This quaint little scissor stand is available as a complete kit from the CSG but if you want to own one without doing the stitching, now is your chance! The hand-turned wooden cotton reel was made for this project and the stitching is worked on a piece of linen band.

You can keep your best gold-plated needles in the band and then pop the scissors in the hole in the top. The scissors are held with a hand-crafted cord which matches the stitching, and the inside with some hand-dyed wool felt.

The scissor stand measures 2.75in (5.cm) high and 1.5 (4cm) across the top and is supplied boxed in tissue and includes the pair of Italian gold-plated lion’s tail scissors, some pearl pins and two gold-plated needles.

Scissor stands are one of my favourite inventions. A lovely portable place for your needles pins and scissors. The wooden bobbin for this scissor stand was specially turned for the Cross Stitch Guild but, as I am sure you have noticed, I love the vintage ones too. I had to laugh one day as I caught myself considering a job lot of cotton reels on an auction site. I wasn’t admiring all the coloured threads, I was weighing up how I might use the bobbins.
