Bird in a Cage Scissor Workbox Weight

This workbox weight has been upcycled from a little counted sampler which had seen better days. The design is worked in cross stitch, and I have added a pair of Italian gold-plated lion’s tail scissors which are attached with an Indian beaded string.

The weight is filled with dry rice and lavender. It measures 5 x 3in (12.5 x 7.5cm) and is supplied with the scissors, three pearl-headed pins and is gift boxed.

I love my ‘invention’ of the Workbox Weight, which is a cross between a pincushion and a paperweight. Many of my pincushions are stuffed with polyester wadding or similar and as a result are just too bouncy. When I put something on my worktable, I want it to stay put! When I have one of these treasures on my desk, I can add pins of various sizes, quilt clips, gold needles and even have a thimble hanging on a large corsage pin. I must add here that mine never makes it to my workbox because I am lucky enough to have a workroom instead.
