Alice Hobbs Sampler Study Box

4 in stock

I just love this little sampler, which I managed to find on an auction site a few years ago. Worked on double canvas in coloured threads, it is simply charming. I still struggle with the fact that this sampler was designed and stitched by a ten-year old child!

Although Alice worked her sampler on canvas, you could stitch this on an unbleached linen or even on linen Aida fabric is you prefer.

This sampler is 105 x 110 stitches so, if you used Cashel 28-count linen, your finished piece would measure 7.5 x 7.75in (19.x 20cm).

In your lovely JG Book Box, you will find:

  • A large picture of your sampler
  • The beautifully printed chart on beautiful quality satin A3 paper
  • A copy of my book Stitching your own Little Piece of History
  • A gold-plated needle
  • Faux-ivory thread holder with two shades of thread for an optional folded hem (detailed instructions for this are also included)

The story of this little treasure

I have enjoyed collecting old samplers for over 20 years and love living with them hung on my walls. If only they could talk, just imagine the stories they could tell of the young stitchers creating them.

Recreating a sampler is a fascinating way to step back in time. If you would like to know more about how my Sampler Study Boxes came to be, you may enjoy this Jotting.

This sampler is part of my third mini collection of charts for you to enjoy. I have limited numbers of my previous releases available if you would like one:
