Violet & Rose Hardanger Needlebook
This attractive hand embroidered needlebook has been created using a very special trio of linen band made by Vaupel & Heilenbeck based in Germany. The Hardanger section is the lace like effect on the front and this is lined in cream silk with the rest self-lined in linen. The stitches include Kloster blocks, needleweaving, doves eye, cross stitch and bullion roses.
The Needlebook measures 3 x 4in (7.5 x 10cm) when folded and has an eyelet band and button closure. It is supplied wrapped in tissue and gift boxed with five gold plated needles.

The story of this little treasure
Another small treasure that started life as a model for a class I taught here at Pinks Barn. (For the curious, I must add that I no longer have classes at my home as I am supposed to be retired!)
Hardanger is an area around the Hardanger Fjord in Norway that gave its name to this type of counted embroidery, where cut work was a feature of the local dress and is still worn in the present day. I am currently looking forward to another trip Hardanger where we will be staying in a hotel which has the family’s traditional costume in a large glass room at the front of the hotel!
